How to Deposit Cash in an ATM
In order to deposit cash you insert the money directly into the designated slot and following the instructions shown on the screen.
Steps may vary based machine to machine. Typically you must follow instructions listed on the screen when depositing at your bank’s ATM:
- Insert your card when prompted
- Enter PIN
- The screen will prompt you to choose which account you want to use
- Next enter the amount you want to deposit
- You will be asked to enter the cash in a slot when the machine is ready to receive your funds
- Once you have deposited, you will be asked if you’d like a receipt
- Take your receipt and card
Can You Deposit Cash in an ATM?
If you are out of town travelling and your bank is not available, you can still deposit your cash at any ATM.
If your bank doesn’t have any relation with the owners of the ATMs in the area you are in, you might not be able to make a deposit. Depositing in another bank’s ATM means there are fees and longer wait times for the deposit to post to your account.
Deposit Checks in an ATM
The steps vary between different ATMs of the same bank, so be sure to follow the machine’s specific instructions. The instructions will likely follow these steps:
- Sign your check on the back for deposit only
- Insert your card and enter your PIN
- Select the “deposit” option
- Select the account
- Type in the deposit amount
- Confirm the deposit amount
- Make your receipt selection
- Take your receipt and card before leaving the ATM
ATM Fees
Using your own bank’s ATM means there are usually no fee. However if you use a different banks ATM, you might be charged a fee. You may also be charged a fee when you use an ATM operated by another bank.
Both the bank and the ATM operator could charge separate fees.
