There is no such thing as an “APY for six months.” An APY is a percentage rate reflecting the total amount of interest paid on an account, based on the interest rate and the frequency of compounding for a 365-day period and calculated according to the rules of Appendix A to Regulation DD. So if Huntington Bank’s rate of 2.05% on $20,000 is guaranteed for 6 months, and then drops to 0.05% for the next 6 months (based on their current rates) the APY would actually be 1.06% under Regulation DD. They would only be allowed to advertise 2.05% APY if that was their current rate on that tier for their business money market account, or if their promotion guaranteed the rate for a year.
