Upon application and approval for the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, you have the opportunity to earn a $300 statement credit after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new Card within the first 6 months.
This card does come with a $95 annual fee ($0 first year), however, this annual fee (See rates & fees) is just a tiny downside considering the benefits and cash back rewards this card offers.
With this card, you’ll earn 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $6,000 per year in purchases, then 1%) – that means spending $60 a week at U.S. supermarkets could earn over $180 back per year AND – 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations. 1% cash back on other purchases.
In addition, cardholders earn 6% cash back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions and 3% cash back on transit including taxis/rideshare, parking, tolls, trains, buses & more.
With those features being stated, the annual fee can easily be offset with the $360 cash back rewards you will earn if you spend $6,000 in total at U.S. supermarkets via the 6% cash back ($6K spend cap, then 1% afterwards), so if you’re looking for a card that rewards you greatly for frequent purchases such as grocery spend, cash purchases, and shopping, this card may be ideal for you!

Amex Blue Cash Preferred Welcome Offer
Earn a $300 statement credit after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new Card within the first 6 months.
There are many ways to go about this. Down below are several options to acquiring this offer.
Earning Cash Back
With the Amex Blue Cash Preferred, purchases made with digital media and streaming services earn an unlimited 6% cash back. These include Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO, Apple Music, Audible, and some others.
U.S. supermarket purchases earn 6% cash back, up to a $6,000 annual spending limit. Therefore, you can earn a total of $360 cash back per year. After hitting $6,000, supermarket purchases earn an unlimited 1% cash back.
Note that Amex doesn’t include superstores like Walmart and Target nor warehouse club stores like Costco and Sam’s Club in their grocery store category for the purposes of this card.
U.S. gas station and transit (including rideshare) purchases earn an unlimited 3% cash back.
All other purchases earn an unlimited 1% cash back.
Redeeming Cash Back
Redeem your cash back for a statement credit once you hit the $25 redemption minimum. You can also redeem for gift cards and general merchandise.

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is essentially the upgraded version of the American Express Blue Cash Everyday Card (see our review). Other great general cash back cards with no annual fee to consider are the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card and the Chase Freedom Unlimited®.
With the Blue Cash Preferred Card, you’ll receive double the cash back — meaning 6% Cash Back at U.S. supermarkets rather than only 3%. And you’ll also earn 3% Cash Back at U.S. gas stations rather than just 2%.
And to reiterate, the annual fee can easily be offset with the $360 cash back rewards you will earn if you spend $6,000 in total at U.S. supermarkets via the 6% cash back ($6K cap, then 1% afterwards) and that’s just considering maxing out in the U.S. supermarket category minus the 3% cashback on gas and select department stores.
So, overall, if you spend heavily in these listed categories, this card is ideal for you! Provide feedback in the comment section below by telling us your thoughts and experience with this card.
