5% Cash Back Categories
Here, the Chase Freedom® Card will earn you 5% cash back in combined purchases (up to $1,500) in the categories you activate each quarter (every 3 months) while still earning 1% for all other purchases.
Note, these cash back rewards do not automatically apply by simply swiping your credit card when making purchases. You have to make sure you enroll online to activate the 5% cash back categories. You have 2 months up to each following quarter to do so. If you forget or don’t enroll, you will not be eligible to receive the 5% cash back rate. So be mindful! But on another note, if you take advantage of the $1,500 in combined purchases per quarter, you could earn up to $300 in extra rewards with the offered cashback rate throughout the course of the year ($75 in cash back each quarter)!

Department Store Categories
Also, when the rotating category is for department store purchases, you can get even more rewards by accessing the the Chase Ultimate Rewards website, an online storefront, in which you can get up to 10% cash back on your online purchases!
From past offers of this categories, I found that some of the re-occurring eligible department stores include: Sears, JCPenney, Macy’s, Saks, Nordstrom, Kohl’s, Nordstrom Rack, Neiman Marcus, Saks Off Fifth, and such. And some stores that are usually excluded from this category are: Target, Walmart, and TJ Maxx.
These might be subject to change this year, but this is just to give you an idea of what stores to expect when the quarter time nears.
