Author’s Verdict
When you sign up for an Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card, you will be able to earn points for spending on “everyday” purchases like groceries and gas like the card name entitles.
Aside from receiving your points, including the bonus points, this card will allow you to earn 50% bonus points on your purchases after you have made 30 or more purchases during a billing period. To put that percentage into perspective, you will then be earning nearly 4.5x the points at U.S. supermarkets, 3x the points at gas stations, and 1.5x the points for all other purchases when using this card. If you were concerned before that the annual fee was a bit high, knowing this now will surely offset that fee if you know your spending habits in those selected categories will outweigh the cost.
Another feature this specific card offers is, unlike most American Express cards, this one allows you to carry a balance each month. This means you do not have to pay off your account balance in full each month. This is considered to be both good and bad. Because if you aren’t careful about your spending habits, interest could start accruing over time and end up being stuck in great debt.
