Author’s Verdict
With some past PNC cards, there has been some complicated reward programs. Surprisingly though, the Premier Traveler Visa Signature Credit Card is fairly simple and straightforward which is nice.
However, PNC only offers credit cards, such as this one, to those who live in the following states:
- Alabama
- Delaware
- Florida
- Georgia
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kentucky
- Maryland
- Michigan
- Missouri
- North Carolina
- New Jersey
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Virginia
- Wisconsin
- West Virginia
- Washington D.C.
Within the advertisement, they state 2 options in which you can redeem miles:
- Redeem miles to cover travel purchases you’ve already made
- Redeem miles to book new travel
But in addition to that, they you give you a 3rd option to redeem miles for travel-related gift cards or for cash. For gift cards, they don’t publish a redemption rate, but I can assume it’s not as good of a deal. And if you choose to exchange your miles for cash or statement credits, then your miles will then only be worth about half a cent each (rather than 1 cent each) when redeemed this way. Therefore, it’s suggested that you directly redeem miles for travel using the first two options only to get the most out of your rewards.
Some flaws I will point out are the card is only available in certain states, the sign-up bonus isn’t as high as some other currently offered cards on the market, and if you read within the fine print you will see that the travel category isn’t as broad. But to end this post on a positive note, this is a good travel credit card to have for the first year to pocket the sign-up bonus (since the annual fee is waived) and to earn 2% back on all your purchases in the form of traveler’s credits with knowing that there’s no foreign transaction fees attached!
